Shared by Greg's daughter Anna:

Gregor Vernon Baker died on Saturday, March 6, 2004. He was 55.

Baker was born in Baytown, Texas to the late Jack Vernon Baker and Gwen Royder-Williams, now of Fredericksburg. Greg lived most of his childhood in the Baytown area, attending Robert E. Lee High School before enlisting in the United States Army. He served his country as a first lieutenant in the First Air Cavalry during Vietnam.

Upon arriving home, he attended the University of Texas at Austin. He later transferred to Idaho State University, where he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

During all those years though, Greg found time to travel the world extensively. He and friends explored Europe before trekking through the Sahara Desert, Volkswagon-van-caravan style. He homesteaded in Alaska for many months. Greg spent much time exploring Mexico, Central and South America where he rowed to the headwaters of the Amazon River. He even spent some time in Australia.

True to form, Greg died while serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ecuador.
