I didn’t know Stanley but his brother Joseph, who I followed as a volunteer in Aplahoue, Benin in 1973 told me about him. I lost my only brother in 1989 when he was 39 and know how hard it is.
And this lists the cause of his death as motorcycle accident http://peacecorpsonline.org/historyofthepeacecorps/primarysources/19650501%20Volunteer_May.pdf
It made me sad that there was so little on this man and that his passing should be so unmarked — here is a Peace Corps website that gives a fascinating account of his funeral. http://files.peacecorps.gov/manuals/cbj/1967.pdf
Just came across this post. Did you happen to personally know Stan?
Sorry, Gene, I just saw this. No, I didn’t. But between having served in Nigeria with the State Department, and having roots in Wisconsin, I was interested. Looks like you’re family — so sorry for your loss so long ago.
